Photo festival, La Gacilly

Each year la Gacilly hosts a Photograph festival, all through the town there are lots of photographs, some quite huge, across the bridge there are photographs of Eskimos, the photographs form a walk in the gardens by the bridge, then up through the town itself there are other themes. I will visit La Gacilly again this weekend and get some high quality photographs, but for now here's a couple I took with my phone.

Here's some postings from previous years.

New Geese

I've got two geese sitting at present, but one isn't doing a good job, I'm not sure if any eggs will hatch and wanted to make sure I had a male, so I went to La Gacilly market and bought two. I've got white geese, my lonely female is a mixture of white and grey. It also helps the put new blood lines in the mix.
I've also ordered my turkeys, he's only having white this year, so I've ordered six and will see if I can get black elsewhere. The good news is they will be available in three weeks, normally turkeys are not ready till late July or early august.

EDIT, I let them out today.

Ooops

It seems I've exceeded my photo limit on Picasa, that's where blogspot.com photographs are stored, so I'm having to change some posts, its either that or pay for more storage, actually its not that expensive but I would hate to lose photographs a few years down the line because I forgot to pay, so I'm moving some of my photographs to FaceBook and Photo bucket and will provide links to them.

My weekend away

The two posts after this are for "A Night in the Trees" then "Oradour sur Glane. These are the other photographs from my weekend away. CLICK HERE
The photographs of the church and many of the streets were taken in Ballac, I found someone else's photographs of Ballac HERE .
Bellac lies 45km to the North West of Limoges at the confluence of the rivers Gartempe and the Vincou, in the Department of Haute-Vienne. Poitiers is 70km to the north west, and Angouleme 100km to the south-west. The hills known as the Monts de Blond lie immediately to the south.

A Night in the Trees

After Oradour sur Glane I spent a night in a tree house at La Parc de la Belle in Mangé South of Poitier to see lots of photo's CLICK HERE

Oradour Sur Glane

On the 10th of June 1944 the Waffen SS (der Fuhrer) regiment part of the second Panzer division (das Reich) entered Oradour sur Glane and murdered 642 men women and children. The village remains as a memorial to those that died there.

Normally for ease of loading and viewing I use a low quality camera, on this occasion I used a high end camera and took lots of photographs, rather than post them all here I've put the lot on a separate page, they can be found by clicking on the link below
http://rozinbrittany.blogspot.com/p/oradour-sur-glane.html

.
What happened on that fateful day has been written here http://www.oradour.

There's lots of information about Oradour, the SS and related subjects here Oradour.info

The website for the memorial centre is here http://www.oradour.org/ This site has an English language option but I couldn't get it to work.

I'm reading this. There is a link to this book on the right hand tool bar.

Herbs.

Salads should be grown as close to the house as possible, herbs should be right by your house, better outside the kitchen door, what's the chances of you going down the bottom of the garden to pick a little parsley when you have dried on your shelf? So not only do I have herbs growing around my front door I have made a mini herb garden, it will live just outside the door but I can bring it inside when I need it.

I planted a few bulbs as well.

I would be interested in seeing other peoples herb gardens, if you have a picture posted somewhere please send me a link, then with your permission I will feature it on my blog, with a link.

Galettes

750 ml water
3 egg
3 grams sea salt
250 grams buckwheat flour (farine noir)
50 grams all purpose flour
50 grams melted butter or olive oil

Whisk 250 ml of the water with egg and salt to combine.
In a separate bowl, mix both flours together. Make a well in the centre. Gradually whisk in water mixture. When you have a smooth paste, whisk in remaining water to make a thin batter. (The consistency similar to 35% cream.) You may not use all 500 ml . Set aside at room temperature for 2 hours.
Stir melted butter or oil into batter when ready to cook galettes.

Filling.
Make a bechamel sauce and add the ingredients you want, bacon, boiled potatoes, sausage, or vegetables. Try a full English breakfast on/in a galette, or a Toulouse sausage with ketchup wrapped as Breton hot-dog.
